Pune: PCMC to handover 15 sites for PCMC to Nigdi metro line development
Pimpri, August 23, 2024: The municipal process is underway to hand over 15 sites within the Pimpri Chinchwad municipal limits to the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited for the Pimpri Chinchwad to Nigdi metro line.
Effective coordination between Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has been noted. A meeting was held with the chief officers of both organizations under the chairmanship of Commissioner Shekhar Singh. The handover of sites is proceeding smoothly with no obstacles reported for the metro line, according to Assistant Commissioner of the Bhumi Zindagi Department, Avinash Shinde.
In 2018, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation granted advance possession of 10 sites—5 in Pimpri, 2 in Vallabhnagar, 2 in Phugewadi, and 1 in Dapodi—for the Dapodi to Pimpri metro route to Mahametro for a period of 30 years under specified terms and conditions. Currently, the process is underway to hand over 15 additional sites, including 4 at Akurdi, 8 at Nigdi, and 3 at Chinchwad, to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited for the Pimpri to Nigdi route.
To enhance the stability and financial viability of Mahametro and increase post-ticket revenue, the commercial use of land is necessary. A request was made to the Government of Maharashtra through Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation for the unconditional hand over of ownership rights for these lands within the Municipal Corporation limits.
In response, the Urban Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra requested a report from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. A detailed report has been submitted to the Urban Development Department by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. This information is provided on behalf of the Municipal Corporation.
