Pune: Four girls fall in a construction pit filled with rainwater on Katraj-Kondhwa Road, 3 rescued, 1 dies

In a tragic incident on Saturday around noon on the Katraj-Kondhwa route, a young girl lost her life after falling into a pit dug for road widening. The pit, located near Mahakali Temple in front of Gagan Unnati Society, was filled with rainwater.

According to the police, the area is under development, and several makeshift huts are situated nearby. Residents, including women and girls, often use the nearby water pit for washing clothes. On this fateful day, four girls, while washing their clothes, slipped and fell into the pit.

A bystander promptly informed the fire brigade and the police. Locals managed to rescue three girls: Sargam Shilawat (15), Sejal Shilawat (13), and Janu Shilawat (15). Unfortunately, the fourth girl, identified as Muskan Shilawat (16), could not be rescued in time. Firefighters retrieved her from the water, but she was declared brought dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The brave efforts of the Kondhwa Fire Brigade team, including Driver Sameer Tadvi, Tandel Dashrath Malvadkar, Fireman Prakash Shelar, Abhijit Thalkar, and Vishwajit Wagh, were acknowledged as they worked hard and swiftly to search for the girl.

The Kondhwa police are conducting a further investigation into the incident.
