Pune Metro starts new feeder service amidst growing popularity of Pune Metro Rail
Metro service in Pune is receiving an excellent response from residents for local city travel amidst increasing traffic jams, air pollution, and the high cost of petrol and diesel. In June, the average number of daily metro ridership reached 93 thousand.
This rise follows the inauguration of the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi extended route in March 2024, which significantly boosted passenger numbers from the previous average of 50 to 60 thousand per day.
Vanaj to Ramwadi by Mahametro
Mahametro is working on a 33.2 km metro line from Swargate to Pimpri Chinchwad, with 29.58 km already completed. The remaining 3.5 km, from Civil Court to Swargate, is in the final stages and expected to commence operation in July or August, ahead of the assembly elections. This expansion provides a more viable public transport option for Pune’s citizens.
13 Thousand Passengers from Pimpri-Chinchwad
The daily passenger numbers have increased significantly at key stations. Pimpri-Chinchwad station now averages 13,300 daily passengers, thanks to its direct 20-25 minute link to Pune. Pune Railway Station sees an average of 9,205 daily passengers, who benefit from direct metro access to areas like Pimpri Chinchwad, Nagar Road, and Kothrud. This connectivity shows a clear preference for metro travel among railway passengers.
New Feeder Bus Service
Great news for Pune Metro riders! The Pune Metro Rail Project, in association with PMPML Pune, is launching a feeder bus service from Ramwadi Metro Station to WTC, Gera Commerzone Junction, and Eon IT Park. Starting at 6 pm on June 19, this service aims to provide seamless travel for metro passengers to key commercial hubs.
