Pune: Dry Days Declared for Palkhi Processions, Police to Monitor Areas for Illegal Gatherings

The civic bodies of Pune are gearing up to welcome the Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj palkhi processions, arriving in the city on June 30. The processions are set to depart from their respective locations and head towards Pandharpur, with significant stops along the way.

Schedule of Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi:

June 28: Departing from Dehu, with a night halt at Inamdar Saheb Wada.
June 29: Proceeding towards Pimpri Chinchwad, with a Dry Day declared in Dehu.
June 29-30: Halting at Vitthal Mandir, Akurdi, leading to Dry Days under the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Akurdi Ward.
June 30-July 1: Staying at Nivdunga Vitthal Mandir in Nana Peth, resulting in Dry Days in the area under Pune Municipal Corporation jurisdiction.
Subsequent halts will include Loni Kalbhor, Yawat, Varvand, Undawadi, Baramati, Sansar, Anthurne, Nimgaon Ketki, Indapur, and Sarati, with Dry Days declared as per the palkhi’s schedule.

Schedule of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi:

June 29: Departing from Alandi, with the first stop at Gandhi Wada and Dry Days declared in Alandi Municipal Council limits.
June 30-July 1: Halting at Palkhi Vithoba Mandir in Bhawani Peth, leading to Dry Days in the Bhawani Peth area.
Subsequent stops will include Saswad, Jejuri, and Walhe, before the palkhi enters the Satara district.

Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase has mandated these Dry Days to maintain order during the processions. Additionally, the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police have been instructed to monitor areas to prevent illegal gatherings.

In a recent review meeting, Dr. Diwase emphasized, “The areas through which the palkhi processions will pass, will observe a Dry Day on those days. Additionally, the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police are instructed to monitor the locations where there is a possibility of illegal gatherings as well.”
