Pune: Municipal Corporation Launches Dengue Free Pimpri Chinchwad City Campaign as Dengue Cases Rise
Pune: Additional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Khorate has called upon citizens to actively participate in the Dengue Free Pimpri Chinchwad City Campaign, organized by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. This initiative aims to combat dengue by encouraging residents to maintain cleanliness in their homes and surroundings, dedicating one hour every week to ensure they remain dry and free from stagnant water.
Khorate highlighted the campaign’s objectives during an event held at Ankushrao Landge Natyagruha Hall in the E Regional Office area. The event saw the presence of numerous officials, including Health Medical Officer Dr. Laxman Gophane, Additional Health Medical Officer Dr. Abhay Dadevar, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Agle, Regional Officer Ajinkya Yele, Health Executive Officer Ganesh Deshpande, Administration Officer Nana More, and various medical department officers. A large number of students from municipal schools and local citizens also attended.
The campaign’s goal is to raise awareness about dengue prevention, especially during the monsoon season. It emphasizes the importance of keeping areas clean and dry and encourages citizens to join the effort. Khorate urged the public to participate in large numbers, emphasizing community responsibility in preventing the spread of dengue.
Attendees actively participated in physical activities, and street drama performances by artists and employees further promoted dengue awareness. An awareness rally was also conducted in the area, with significant participation from officials, employees, citizens, and students. Khorate stressed the importance of preventing water accumulation in homes and seeking immediate medical attention if dengue symptoms are detected.
The Municipal Corporation’s Medical Department is implementing the “BEAT Dengue” concept, which stands for Be Responsible, Educate Ourselves, Alert PCMC, and Throw Away Stagnant Water. Dr. Laxman Gofane highlighted the need for health vigilance and mentioned that the dengue-free Pimpri Chinchwad campaign would be conducted weekly at various locations.
A recent report indicated that out of 3002 suspected dengue cases tested in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area, 23 individuals were confirmed to have dengue. Notably, five members of a single household in Akurdi were reported to have dengue, with three patients currently in a stable condition at a private hospital. An entomological survey identified mosquito larvae at a nearby construction site, which was promptly addressed through fumigation and fines.
Symptoms of dengue include high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, vomiting, pain behind the eyes, body rash, weakness, loss of appetite, dry mouth, and in severe cases, internal bleeding and low blood pressure. Immediate medical consultation is advised upon detection of these symptoms.
Citizens are reminded that dengue is transmitted through mosquito bites, and thus, it is crucial to prevent mosquito breeding by avoiding water accumulation and ensuring proper waste disposal. Personal precautions should be taken to avoid mosquito bites.
