In a heart-stopping moment that has gone viral on social media, an Indian Railways assistant loco pilot risked his life to restart a stalled train on a high bridge, gaining widespread admiration for his heroic act. The video, captured during a dramatic incident in Assam, shows the dedication of railway employees who work tirelessly to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely and on time.

The incident occurred on September 26, 2024, when Loco Pilot R.K. Ranjan and Assistant Loco Pilot Ramji Kumar were operating the 15657 Up Brahmaputra Mail in the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone. The train came to an unexpected halt on bridge number 456, located between Bijni and Patildah. As the train stood stranded on the bridge, it was Assistant Loco Pilot Ramji Kumar who took swift and daring action to resolve the situation.

In the viral video, Kumar is seen disembarking from the train, equipped with only an iron rod, and manually restarting the train. His quick thinking and bravery allowed the train to resume its journey, preventing significant delays for the passengers.

Social media users have been quick to praise the loco pilot’s heroic efforts, with many commenting on how such employees keep the country’s railway system running smoothly. One user wrote, “Salute to the loco pilot. It’s because of people like him that we have a functioning railway system.” Another commented, “Proud of our railway staff. This is real dedication to duty.”

This is not the first time such a daring act has been recorded. A similar incident took place in Bihar, when train number 05497, running from Gorakhpur to Narkatiaganj, stalled on a bridge between Valmikinagar and Paniyahwa. In that case, the train was restarted by railway employees Ajay Yadav and Ranjit Kumar, who risked their lives to repair a leaking UL valve that had caused the train to stop.

The video of the Assam incident has drawn comparisons to a recent viral video from Bangalore, where a train was delayed due to vehicles blocking a level crossing at Munnekola railway gate near Outer Ring Road. In that case, the level crossing could not be lowered because vehicles were parked on the tracks, leading to a stoppage until the vehicles were cleared.

While the railway network in India is vast and complex, it is the tireless efforts of employees like Assistant Loco Pilot Ramji Kumar that keep it moving, often in challenging conditions. The viral video has served as a reminder of the dedication and commitment of Indian Railways staff, who go to great lengths to ensure passengers’ safety and punctuality.
