Hinjawadi traffic has been notorious anyways, but rains have further compounded the problem. The existing roads in the IT park are just not sufficient for the volume of traffic Hinjawadi generates. On top of that, the forever- going-on metro work and heavy rains have resulted in total chaos in and around Hinjawadi.

One commuter wrote on social media, “There are big potholes on the hinjewadi roads. It is taking 2 hrs to reach from hinjewadi phase3 to Bhumkar Chowk. Need attention from local administration to address potholes and traffic situation. Laxmi Chowk signal takes more than 45 mins to cross”.

Commuters also question that while Hinjawadi IT Park generates taxes worth millions of rupees, why can’t the authorities spend some of that money back on the place the money is getting generated from?

While traveling to Hinjawadi, it is not just inside the IT Park that the traffic is choked. Even on the Pune-Mumbai National Highway, the road is cratered with dangerously large potholes that are filled with water, making it dangerous for drivers, especially two-wheeler riders. The problem is further exacerbated during night due to poor visibility.

One user suggested measures to improve traffic situation in the IT Park

Another social media user commented, “In Pune, I was lucky to save my life from a “road in a pothole” on all NH48 service road Hinjewadi in last week. I’m a responsible tax payer. If you can’t provide a simple necessities of people you are contributing to let talent and millionaires leave India.”

The reactions are endless, and solutions are non-existent.

The nightmare commuters are facing while traveling to and from Hinjawadi is making them question as to why techies should not leave India and settle abroad for a better quality of life?

One problem with Hinjawadi is that it has fallen within the narrow gap between the jurisdictions of PMC, PCMC, PMRDA and MIDC and hence everyone shirks away from the responsibility.

Nevertheless, whosesoever’s jurisdiction it is, one thing is clear, if nothing is done urgently, people and companies will relocate out of Hinjawadi. The professionals who work here are already questioning the logic of continuing in Hinjawadi IT Park with such hopeless loss of working hours, wastage of fuel in the traffic and the unnecessary stress and physical problems arising out of driving on chocked roads.
