Recently, a video about the world’s largest residential building, Regent International, that has attracted millions of people around the globe, was released. The architectural wonder called a “self-contained community” is situated in Qianjiang Century City in China and offers an array of various amenities and businesses.

First opened as an ultra-luxury hotel, Regent International was then converted into an extravagant residential complex. This S-shaped building is 675 feet tall and covers 1.47 million square meters, housing over 20,000 residents in thousands of upmarket apartments across its towers, which reach as high as 39 stories. The apartment building provides more than a mere place to live; it becomes a community where everything one needs is within its gigantic walls.

A Self-Sustaining Community

Regent International is a city in itself, with malls, restaurants, schools, hospitals, and playfields, thus requiring the least number of exit from its premises. It is also equipped with modern fitness centers, food courts, indoor swimming pools, groceries, barber shops, nail salons, and expansive gardens, making it really a self-sustaining community.

Despite the population being over 20,000 already in this building, there is still a much larger space that can be held and succeeded. It can house up to 30,000 people; therefore, 10,000 more can occupy the rooms in the distant future.

Social Media Reactions

There are many social media sites that have gone into debates for the magnitude and idea of this towering residential building. One user noted on X (formerly Twitter), “It’s amazing to see how modern architecture can bring so many people together under one roof, creating a unique sense of community.” Another remarked on the challenges such a complex might face: “The pressure on shared facilities like elevators and open spaces within the compound would be immense. In case of a fire, earthquake, etc., the first responders will have a very challenging task.”

Another humorous comment speculated on the unique dynamics of such a large community: “Elections for the RWA (Resident Welfare Association) here must be interesting… lol.”

A Growing Community

Since its opening in 2013, Regent International has housed various residents, such as young professionals, budding influencers, and entrepreneurs. Expenses for apartments vary acording to size, and prices range from 1,500 RMB (approximately â‚ą17,959) per month, without windows, to more expensive units of 4,000 (â‚ą47,891) or over with balconies for bigger units.

The video brought renewed interest to the building as an impressive marvel of modern architecture and urban planning, a place where a community pulses under one roof.
