Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Program and National Clean Air Programme), an indigenous safety rating program, backed by Government of India has launched safety rating stickers to be stuck on new cars.

These stickers will be stuck to the car windshield to showcase safety ratings achieved by the vehicles during the crash tests.

According to reports, the sticker will provide first hand information to buyers about the safety rating of the car they are buying and will help them take an informed decision.

About Bharat NCAP

The Bharat NCAP was launched last year to check the safety ratings of cars in India itself. Earlier, car manufacturers used to send their vehicles to the global NCAP for safety evaluation and get the crash test report. Tata Motors’ new Safari and Harrier models were the first to secure the coveted 5-star safety rating.

Bharat New Car Assessment Program is applicable to the vehicles with Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) up to 3500 kg. BNCAP ratings provide consumers an indication of the level of protection offered to the occupant/s by evaluating the vehicle in the following areas:

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) – AOP focuses on minimizing adult injuries in crashes through seat belts, airbags, and structural safety.

Child Occupant Protection (COP) – COP ensures children’s safety via effective use of car seats and booster seats in vehicles.

Safety Assist Technologies (SAT) – SAT comprises technologies like automatic braking and lane assistance to prevent accidents and enhance safety.
