Pune: PMC Launches Massive Cleanup and Relief Efforts Post July 25 Flooding
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a large-scale cleanup and relief operation for flood-affected areas. Led by PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, these efforts aim to address immediate needs and prevent disease outbreaks.
Flood Impact on July 25, 2024:
Heavy rains caused flooding in multiple areas, including Sainath Nagar, Vadgaon Sheri, Shantinagar, Indiranagar, Cimagarden, Yojana Poultry Farm, Vishrant Society, Yashwantnagar, Kalas, Tadiwala Road, Patil Estate, Pulachi Wadi, Bhim Nagar Visarjan Ganpati Ghat, Balewadi, Adarsh Nagar Bopodi, Kothrud-Bavdhan ward no.10, 11, 12, Erandwane, Shahu Vasahat, Tapodham, Rajput Slum cemetery, Shivane, Uttam Nagar Mashe Aali, Bajar samiti, Indira Vasahat, Bhim Nagar, Kondhwa Dhawade, Ekta Nagar, Nimbaj Nagar, Sahakarnagar, Dhankawadi, Katraj, Ambegaon Budruk, Jambhulwadi, Kolewadi, Mangdewadi, Bhilarewadi, River Banks, Ashtabhuja, Apte Ghat, Tilak Bridge, Omkareshwar Temple
Rescue Operations:
Dr. Bhosale coordinated rescue operations, deploying eight PMC boats. Two NDRF teams (30 personnel each with four boats) and one Army column (80 personnel, doctors, engineers, and two boats) joined the efforts. Temporary shelters were set up at 26 locations for displaced citizens, providing food and water with help from PMC, social organizations, and volunteers. The PMC Water Supply Department provided 68 drinking water tankers and free medical services.
Relief Efforts:
PMC distributed 2,700 blankets, 5,000 sheets, 7,000 bed sheets, and plastic buckets to flood victims. Volunteers, organizations, and local representatives contributed:

Cleanup Operations:
On July 27, PMC prioritized debris and mud removal, deploying:

- 98 sanitation supervisors
- 4,227 sanitation workers
- 73 spraying staff

- 998 kg of disinfectant powder
- 104 sprayers
- 42 fogging machines
- 4 rickshaws
- 24 dumpers
- 3 tractors
- 9 water tankers
- 10 electric pumps
- 7 generators
- 20 JCBs
- 40 DPs
- 50 BRCs
- 8 Hyva trucks
- 35 jetting machines
- 121 garbage trucks
- 294 small vehicles
- 131 compactors
- 29 bin lifters
- 40 tippers
Additional Support:
Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Panvel Municipal Corporations provided extra manpower and resources. On July 27, PMC cleared 228 tons of garbage, 26.5 tons of mud, and 33.53 tons of tree debris. A special cleanup drive by Shri Swami Samarth Gurupeeth and PMC removed 162 tons of garbage, 64 tons of mud, and 26 tons of tree debris.
Search and Rescue:
PMC and PMRDA teams recovered the body of Akshay Salunkhe from the river on July 27. The search for Dinkar Kumbhar continues.
Ongoing Measures:
With the initial cleanup complete, PMC is implementing measures to prevent disease spread. Dr. Bhonsle and other PMC officials are overseeing continued operations.
