Rainfall during Ganeshotsav? IMD issues yellow alert for ghat areas of Pune and Raigad
Pune, September 03, 2024: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the ghat sections in Pune and Raigad districts during the next few days, raising the chances of rainfall during Ganeshotsav. Evolving weather systems could impact festivities.
Rainfall Forecast and Alerts
Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and the ghats of Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur districts should brace for heavy rainfall between September 6 and 8 says IMD. There is likelihood of rain in the afternoons, accompanied by lightening and thunderstorm. Gradually the rainfall is likely to reduce as the festival progresses.
Anupam Kashyapi, the former head of the Weather Forecasting Division at IMD Pune suggests remaining updated with weather forecasts as localized heavy showers could disrupt festivities.

Specifically, for September 07, the IMD forecast for Pune says, “Heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas. Light to moderate rain in plains.”
Pune has been witnessing slightly below average daytime temperatures with Shivajinagar recording 27.9°C and Lohegaon 27.6°C.
