A 35-year-old railway employee died during a shunting operation at Barauni Junction in Begusarai district of Bihar. The incident occurred when the engine of Lucknow-Barauni Express (train number: 15204) was being detached from the bogie. Meanwhile, the engine suddenly picked up reverse speed, due to which the employee got stuck between the engine and the coach.

The victim was identified as Amar Kumar Rao, a box porter working at the station under the Sonpur Railway Division.

Amar died on the spot in this incident that happened on Saturday. As soon as the passengers informed about the incident, the train driver stopped the engine and fled from the spot.

A video of the incident has also surfaced in which Amar was seen stuck between the engine and the power car on platform number 5. As soon as the incident was reported, senior officials of Sonpur Railway Division immediately reached the spot and ordered an inquiry.

Investigation Orders and Assistance to Family

The DRM of Sonpur division termed the incident as extremely unfortunate and said, “This is an unfortunate incident, and such incidents should not happen at the workplace. We have ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter. The family of the deceased has been provided funeral assistance and compensation will also be given as per service rules.”

The DRM further said, “After the investigation is completed, action will be taken against the accused and corrective measures will be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.”

Decision to Tighten Security Protocols

Railway officials said that a meeting of all departments has been called at Barauni Junction to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols during train operations.
