Bengaluru, November 19, 2024: A 20-year-old sales executive died tragically and over 45 electric scooters were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out at an electric vehicle (EV) showroom in Bengaluru’s Rajajinagar area on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place at around 5:30 pm at MY EV Store on Dr Rajkumar Road. Initial investigations revealed that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in an electric scooter. The fire engulfed the entire showroom in no time.

Five employees present in the showroom somehow managed to save their lives, but a 20-year-old sales executive named Priya got trapped in the fire and could not get out. Firefighters reached the spot and deployed three fire engines to douse the fire, but by then Priya had died tragically and the showroom was completely burnt to ashes.

To ensure public safety, the Bengaluru City Traffic Police diverted vehicles around Dr Rajkumar Road. Also, people living in nearby buildings and shopkeepers were immediately evacuated as a precautionary measure.

This incident raises serious questions about the safety risks associated with electric scooters and batteries. With the EV industry growing rapidly, it is important to implement stringent safety standards in showrooms and storage facilities to avoid such incidents.

The cause of the fire is being thoroughly investigated, and it is hoped that appropriate steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
