Mumbai-Pune Expressway Accident: Tempo Collides With Bus, 14 Injured in Raigad

Raigad, Maharashtra – Fourteen people were injured when a tempo and a private bus collided near Khopoli on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in the wee hours of Thursday. The accident occurred around 3:00 am when the brakes of a tempo carrying chickens failed.

The bus, which had 11 passengers on board, was headed from Sangola in Solapur district to Mumbai. After the collision with the tempo, the bus went out of control, went off the highway, hit the railing and overturned into a ditch about 20 feet deep.

Condition of the injured and rescue operations

All the 11 passengers on board the bus, including the driver, suffered minor injuries. They were immediately rushed to the Civic Hospital in Khopoli by the rescue team, where they were discharged after first aid.

On the other hand, three people in the tempo were seriously injured. They were rushed to MGM Hospital in Panvel near Kalamboli, where they are undergoing treatment.

Khopoli police and local rescue teams immediately rushed to the spot and helped in shifting the injured to the hospital.

Investigation underway

The Khopoli police have begun an investigation into the accident. Initial investigations revealed that the tempo’s brakes had failed, leading to the accident. The police are also probing whether any negligence or mechanical fault was involved.

Concerns over safety on expressway

The number of accidents due to speeding and mechanical failure is increasing on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The police have strictly instructed drivers to conduct regular vehicle checks and follow speed limits.

The accident highlights the challenges of ensuring road safety on Maharashtra’s busiest expressway.
