Pune Airport Moves Up Two Positions in Global ASQ Rankings to 74th Position – Here’s What Improved
Pune International Airport has moved up two places in the global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) rankings, from 76th in Q2 to 74th in Q3.
This success reflects improvements in passenger satisfaction and operations, which had earlier suffered a decline this year.
Improvement in Passenger Satisfaction
The ASQ survey, which evaluates 31 key performance categories, showed that Pune Airport’s passenger satisfaction rating improved from 4.81 in Q2 to 4.84 in Q3. This is significantly higher than the global average rating of 4.32, which is a testament to the airport’s commitment to providing a better travel experience.
Improvements in Key Areas
1. Ease of access to the airport
Pune Airport has made great strides in making the process of reaching and exiting the airport easier for passengers.
2. Navigation within the terminal
With the help of improved signboards and guidance tools, passengers can now easily find their way around the terminal.
3. Reduced walking distance
The paths within the terminal have been streamlined, providing a more comfortable experience for passengers.
Challenges and Need for Improvement
While there has been significant progress in many areas, three key parameters have shown a decline:
1. Value of transport options
Despite the parking charges at the airport being low (₹60 per 30 minutes) compared to other major airports (such as ₹250 in Delhi and Mumbai), passengers are demanding further improvements in transport services.
2. Waiting time at border/passport control
Currently, passengers are advised to reach the airport two hours before departure, with passport control taking 30-45 minutes. While this is in accordance with security standards, passengers are demanding that the process be made more efficient.
3. Convenience in connecting flights
Passengers have also expressed the need for improvement in the convenience of flight connections.
What Pune Airport Management Said
Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhok highlighted the quality and affordability of airport services. He said,“We charge only Rs 60 for 30 minutes of parking, compared to other private airports like Delhi and Mumbai, where they charge Rs 250 for half an hour.”
Regarding the waiting time at passport control, he clarified, “According to the service level agreement, it takes around 30 to 45 minutes to thoroughly check the credentials of passengers. If we don’t do that properly, the process of identifying passengers becomes more complicated in the future.”
Better Performance Than Global Standards
Pune Airport’s ASQ rating of 4.84 in Q3 is not only a significant improvement but also higher than the MOU target of 4.68 for 2019-20. This performance reflects the airport’s progress in line with international standards.
Looking Ahead
Pune International Airport is committed to improving its ranking and services. By resolving existing challenges and building on its strengths, the airport can gain even higher positions in the global rankings in the future.
With a focus on innovation and service to further enhance passenger experience, Pune Airport is moving towards becoming a major hub in the region.
