Pune Traffic Takes a Hit: Katraj Chowk Flyover Construction Leads to Major Diversions
Pune residents, brace yourselves for traffic disruptions as the construction of a much-needed flyover at Katraj Chowk commences. Starting Tuesday, significant traffic diversions have been implemented to accommodate the construction work.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Amol Zende, has announced a series of changes to regulate traffic flow. These include rerouting of state transport (ST) buses, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mandal (PMPML) buses, and private vehicles. Heavy vehicles will also be restricted from certain routes to alleviate congestion.
The construction involves a segmental launching technique, necessitating temporary traffic modifications until further notice. Authorities urge motorists to opt for alternative routes and avoid Katraj Chowk to ensure a smoother commute.
Key Traffic Changes:
- Heavy Vehicles: Restricted from Satara via Old Katraj Ghat and from Satara Road via New Tunnel.
- Private Vehicles: Diverted from various directions, including Mumbai, Saswad, Bopdev Ghat, and Swargate.
- Public Transport: ST and PMPML buses will follow altered routes to minimize disruptions.
Residents of Mangdewadi, Dattawadi, and Handewadi are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
DCP Zende has assured the public that these traffic changes are temporary and will be in effect until further notice. He urges commuters to cooperate with the authorities and plan their journeys accordingly.
