Pune: PCMC to Enforce Government Mandate to Include Mother’s Name on Government Documents

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to implement the government’s decision to make it mandatory to write the name of the mother after the candidate’s first name on the government documents.

Instructions have been given to all department heads on behalf of the administration department of the municipal corporation in this regard.

In order to treat women equally with men, to create a sense of respect towards women in the society and also to enable the children of single parent women to live with dignity in the society, the policy has been decided to make it mandatory to register the candidate’s name, mother’s name, then father’s name and surname on government documents. It has been approved by the Women and Child Development Department of the State Government. The municipal corporation has received the directions by the state government regarding the implementation of this government decision.

Mother’s name is shown in a separate column in government documents such as students’ educational documents, revenue documents, birth and death registration certificates, service books, application forms for various examinations etc. But according to the new decision, it has been made mandatory to register the candidate’s name, mother’s name followed by father’s name and surname without showing the inclusion of mother’s name in a separate column. This decision will be applicable to persons born after May 1, 2024.

According to the new decision of the state government, writing the mother’s name after the candidate’s first name on the documents such as birth certificate, school admission application form, all educational documents, satbara of land, all property documents, service book of government or semi-government employees, pay slip of all government or semi-government employees, ration card, death certificate service book etc. has been made mandatory. The decision taken by the state government will be implemented on behalf of the municipal corporation, said Additional Commissioner Vijayakumar Khorate.
