Pune: NDA Records Coldest Temperature at 8°C; Chilly Spell Grips District
Pune is experiencing a severe drop in temperatures as clear skies bring wintry conditions to the city and surrounding areas. The National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla recorded the season’s lowest temperature of 8°C on December 15, 2024, marking a significant decline.
Several areas across Pune district reported single-digit temperatures:
- Malin: 9°C
- Shivajinagar: 9°C
- Talegaon: 9°C
- Rajgurunagar: 9.9°C
At Shivajinagar observatory, the city temperature stood slightly higher but chilly at 10.1°C, while Lavale, Wadgaon Sheri, and Magarpatta reported temperatures between 11°C to 16°C. Lonavala recorded the highest minimum at 16.8°C.
Highs and Lows in Maharashtra
Ratnagiri recorded the highest temperature in the state at 34.8°C and Jalgaon witnessed minimum at 8.4°C on December 14.
Why the Temperature Drop?
The sharp dip in temperature comes after a recent spell of unseasonal rains, which caused a temporary rise in mercury levels. Over the last four days, clear skies and prevailing cold winds have driven temperatures down, signaling the onset of a cold wave across the district.
What’s Next?
The IMD has forecast that the cold wave will persist for the next two days, with clear skies and foggy mornings expected. Pune residents are advised to take precautions as temperatures may dip further during the early hours.
