The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has highlighted the rising pollution levels in the Pimpri Chinchwad cities and has outlined the necessary measures and guidelines to address this issue. In response to this, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has developed and implemented a Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), following an order dated 18/09/2024. This initiative aims to control pollution levels and ensure better public health for the citizens of Pimpri Chinchwad.

To further address the issue, the PCMC has taken proactive steps to monitor and regulate public spaces across the city in accordance with several regulations such as the Solid Waste Management Act 2016, Construction Traffic Management Act 2016, Plastic Act 2016, Biomedical Solid Waste Act 1986, and more. To assist with this, an independent agency has been appointed by the Municipal Corporation to oversee and enforce these actions.

Within the limits of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, several unsanitary conditions have been observed. These include the illegal dumping of waste and construction debris along the banks of rivers and streams, improper disposal of solid waste in public spaces, failure to keep roads and footpaths clean, violations of rules at ongoing construction sites, public urination and spitting, littering after public events, defacing municipal property, failure to provide dustbins at commercial establishments, and the improper disposal of biomedical waste. Additionally, there have been reports of burning garbage, the use of banned plastic, unsanitary conditions on open plots, the creation of mosquito breeding grounds, and the discharge of untreated sewage directly into rivers by small industrialists, all contributing to the unsanitary state of the area.

To address these issues, the PCMC has announced that restrictions will be imposed, and penal actions will be taken against the concerned individuals or organizations. Citizens, private construction professionals, contractors, manufacturers, shopkeepers, and other professionals within the limits of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation are hereby informed that no environmentally harmful activities, as mentioned above, should be carried out in the city. Any such activities will be met with strict action under the regulations set forth by the Municipal Corporation. Cooperation from all parties is necessary for the successful implementation of these measures.
