Maharashtra Weather: Prediction of Rain Along With Return of Cold; Yellow Alert in These Districts
Maharashtra, Dec 24, 2024: A mixed weather pattern has taken hold of Maharashtra, with a double crisis of intensified cold and potential rainfall looming over the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain in several districts, heightening concerns as winter intensifies.
Cold Intensifies After Brief Respite
After a brief ease in the cold wave, temperatures in Maharashtra have dropped significantly, with a chilling Monday marking the resurgence of winter. Overcast conditions were observed in some areas, signaling an upcoming shift in weather patterns. According to the IMD, the next few days are expected to bring light rain and thundershowers in isolated areas across the state, particularly on December 26 and 27.
Rain Warnings and Yellow Alerts
The IMD has issued yellow alerts for heavy rain across multiple districts:
- December 26: Vidarbha, including Dhule, Nandurbar, and Nashik.
- December 27: Pune, the Pune Ghat area, Ahilyanagar, and parts of Nashik.
The weather office predicts light rain and thunderstorms in areas outside Vidarbha, along with a 2–4°C increase in minimum temperatures.
Region-Specific Weather Highlights
- Pune and Surrounding Areas: Partly cloudy skies with scattered fog are expected over the next three days, transitioning to cloudy conditions with light rain on December 26 and 27.
- North Maharashtra, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada: Heavy rain is forecasted, with increased pollution levels likely in Mumbai during the morning and evening hours.
Former IMD Weather Forecasting Division head Anupam Kashyapi have urged residents to remain cautious, highlighting the potential for rain, thunderstorms, and lightning across north-central Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat between December 26–28.
Advisory
Residents are advised to monitor updates closely and take necessary precautions during the yellow alert period, particularly in regions forecasted for heavy rainfall.
