Pune: PMC Plans Major Infrastructure Development To Resolve Traffic Woes in New Merged Villages
Pune, December 25, 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to take significant steps toward addressing traffic congestion in the 34 newly included villages. In January, the Maharashtra State Government will finalize decisions regarding property tax collection in these areas. PMC is also gearing up to discuss road development, allocate substantial funding, and draft a comprehensive master plan to resolve traffic challenges.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently chaired a meeting with key stakeholders, including PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale and Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP, to address challenges faced by these newly merged villages. Discussions included issues like the suspension of property tax collection, which has strained PMC’s revenue, and the need for PMC to receive a share of GST revenue from these villages.
Ajit Pawar assured attendees that a meeting scheduled next month would address property tax concerns. Additionally, he recommended that the upcoming PMC budget prioritize road development, with projects completed in a single phase for efficiency.
To tackle Pune’s growing traffic issues, a high-level meeting involving PMC, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Pune Metro, PMPML, Traffic Police, and other agencies is scheduled for next week. Plans will also be discussed at the ward level to ensure seamless coordination.
The inclusion of 34 villages in PMC has created challenges, particularly in areas like Uruli Devachi and Phursungi, which were announced as Nagar Parishads but have yet to be established. Residents of these areas have requested continued development support from PMC until the Nagar Parishads are operational.
