Pune: Woman Doctor Killed in Road Accident; Truck Driver Arrested
Pune, January 09, 2025: In a tragic road accident, a 34-year-old woman doctor, Dr. Pranali Tanmay Date, lost her life after being hit by a speeding truck on Katraj Handewadi Road in Pune on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr. Date, a resident of Undri, was driving her two-wheeler towards Handewadi when the accident occurred. According to Pune City Police, the truck struck her vehicle from behind around 12:30 pm, causing her to fall onto the road. Tragically, the truck’s wheel ran over her head, resulting in her immediate death.
The truck driver, identified as Pandurang Balbhim Bhosale (35) from Dharashiv, fled the scene following the incident. However, he was later arrested by the police based on CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Kalepadal Police Station, and the case is currently being investigated by Sub-Inspector Anil Nimbalkar.
Residents of the Undri-Handewadi area have expressed outrage over the rising number of accidents caused by heavy vehicles and dumpers in the locality. They have described the area as a “death trap” and reported that minor accidents are a daily occurrence. Many locals have started keeping medical supplies on hand, anticipating frequent accidents.
The tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter traffic control and enhanced safety measures to prevent further accidents in the area. Citizens are urging the local administration to take swift action to regulate heavy vehicle movement and ensure road safety.
