Pune: Notorious Criminals Involved in a Series of Chain-Snatching Incidents Near Hanuman Tekdi Arrested
In a major breakthrough, chain snatchers targeting children and girls at Hanuman Tekdi, Pune, under the jurisdiction of Deccan Police Station, have been arrested. The criminals were also found carrying sharp weapons during the arrest.
Four cases of forcible chain snatching were reported at Deccan Police Station, prompting a detailed investigation under the guidance of senior officials. The investigation team, through technical analysis and surveillance, identified and arrested two suspects, namely, Swapnil Shivaji Dombe, aged 32 and Aniket Anil Swami, aged 25, both residents of Pune.
Upon questioning, the accused confessed to threatening children with sharp weapons and snatching chains in the Hanuman Tekdi area over the past year. Four stolen gold chains have been recovered from their possession. Both individuals have prior criminal records registered at Deccan Police Thane and Sinhagad Police Thane.
In a related incident, the investigation team also arrested a suspect for carrying a sharp weapon. The accused, identified as Monty alias Tejas Manik Kharade, aged 27, was taken into custody under Section 4(25) of the Indian Arms Act and Section 37(1) of the Maharashtra Police Act. Monty also has previous cases registered at Sinhagad Road, Dattawadi, and Deccan Police Station.
The commendable operation was conducted under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Pune City Mr. Amitesh Kumar, along with Joint Commissioner of Police Mr. Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police Western Regional Division Mr. Pravin Patil, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Sandeep Singh Gill. The action was supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police Vishrambaug Division, Pune Mr. Sainath Thombre, Senior Police Inspector of Deccan Police Station Mrs. Girisha Nibalkar, and included efforts from Police Sub-Inspectors Mahesh Bhosale, Ajay Bhosale, Dattatray Sawant, Faujdar Dattatray Shinde, Rajendra Marne, and Women Police Officer Dhanashree Supekar, among others.
