Bee Hotel of Pune’s Devendra Jani Steals the Show at Bengaluru’s Echoes of Earth Festival
Pune-based environmentalist and artist Devendra Jani captivated audiences at Bengaluru’s prestigious Echoes of Earth music festival with his remarkable eco-art installation. His 10-foot Bee Hotel, a unique structure blending sustainability with creativity, became a centerpiece of the festival, promoting the importance of native solitary bees in biodiversity conservation.
Jani’s hexagon-shaped Bee Hotel, inspired by a bee cell, was meticulously crafted using bamboo, reclaimed wood blocks, twigs, mud, and boxes, each specifically designed to attract different bee species. Mason bees preferred wood blocks, leafcutter bees thrived in plant-based sticks, Indica Bees found comfort in boxes, while carpenter bees nested in bamboo.
The interactive installation not only showcased eco-art but also served as an educational platform, enlightening visitors on the crucial role bees play in pollination and biodiversity. Visitors of all ages were drawn to the creative display, capturing moments with photos and praising Jani’s impactful efforts.
“Every aspect of this installation is designed to inspire conservation action and showcase the importance of bees to our ecosystem,” said Jani.
The Echoes of Earth festival, which hosted over 40 artists from around the world, proved to be an ideal stage for Jani’s sustainability message. Pune can take pride in Mr. Bee of India, whose work continues to inspire environmental preservation efforts across the nation.
