Pune: Army assisting civil administration in flood relief and rescue

Pune Army called in to assist civil administration in flood relief and rescue

In the midst of heavy rainfall in Pune and the consequent discharge of water into rivers passing through Pune, a contingent of 100 soldiers from Southern Command are assisting the civil administration in rescue and relief operations.

The focus of rescue and relief is on Ekta Nagar on Sinhagad Road, besides other areas, that bears the maximum brunt of water release from Khadakwasla dam.

Khadakwasla dam, the last in the chain of four dam cluster of Panshet, Warasgaon, Temghar and Khadakwasla dams started releasing water at the rate of 45000 cusecs since 5 pm on August 04, inundating low areas downstream.

Pune Municipal Corporation along with the soldiers of Indian Army, NDRF and SDRF is actively engaged in rescuing people and pets from low lying areas.

Meanwhile a press release from Tata Power – Mulshi Dam said the dam is discharging water into Mula river at the rate of 30,2018 cusecs and this discharge will be maintained till further notice unless there is requirement to increase or decrease the flow.

Due to heavy rains and the discharge of water from dams, river levels are rising significantly. Citizens residing in low-lying areas and along riverbanks are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
