Rainfall in Maharashtra likely to remain light till Aug 15, gradually increase thereafter
The rains seem to be taking a break in Maharashtra. After the recent spell of heavy rains in the last 10 days of July continuing till August 04, the rainfall activity has reduced now.
According to KS Hosalikar, Head IMD Pune, the rainfall will remain subdued till August 15 and then gradually pickup till August 22 to continue till the end of the month.
He said the state has received 29% more rain than the average so far.
Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting division, IMD Pune, echoes these forecasts, saying that the chances of rain on the Independence day are very slim with only light rain or slight drizzle predicted, albeit with an overcast sky.
Kashyapi attributes this pause in rainfall to the absence of any offshore trough or a weather system in the state. Weak westerly’s (western winds from the Arabian Sea) are also responsible for lowered rainfall activity in the state, he added.
