New Delhi, September 24, 2024: Indian Meteorological Department has announced the commencement of the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon and has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in some parts of the country.

Southwest Monsoon Withdrawal

IMD says, the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon has commenced from some parts of western Rajasthan and Kachchh, beginning 23rd September. This is about a week later than the normal date of onset of monsoon withdrawal, which is 17th of September.

The line of withdrawal of southwest monsoon now passes through Anupgarh, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Bhuj and Dwaraka.

Conditions are favorable for further withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from some more parts of west Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat during next 24 hours.

Heavy to Very Heavy Rain Predicted

IMD has warned about the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain in Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa during next 3 days and heavy rainfall over central, east & northeast India during 24th-27th September.

IMD predicts heavy rainfall at isolated places over Konkan & Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Coastal Karnataka, West Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Gujarat Region, South Interior Karnataka.

South Peninsular India

Light to moderate rains expected in coastal and interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the week.

Possibility of isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely across coastal and interior Karnataka on 24th September.

West India

Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall very likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada during next 5 days. Gujarat will also witness widespread moderate rain during the next one week.

Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over Konkan & Goa on 24th & 25th September.

Central India

Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall very likely over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh during next 5 days.

East & Northeast India

Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 4 days; Scattered to Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha during the week; Isolated to Scattered light to moderate rainfall over Bihar, Jharkhand during next 5 days; Scattered to Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over northeast India during the week.

Hot and Humid Weather very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Tripura on 23rd September.

Northwest India

Isolated to Scattered light to moderate rainfall very likely over northwest India except West Rajasthan where mainly dry weather likely to prevail during the week;

Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Uttarakhand on 25th & 26th; East Uttar Pradesh 26th & 27th September.
