Pune: District collector allows reopening of 44 pubs, restores licenses
PUNE: After reviewing the suspended permits, the district administration has approved the reopening of 44 establishments whose licenses were previously suspended.
However, Pune Police still have concerns about many dance floors and pubs and have issued show cause notices to over a dozen pubs which is seen as the first step towards cancellation of their licenses.
As reported by Hindustan Times, the State Excise Department’s Pune office had closed 81 pubs and bars following the Porsche car accident case. The superintendent of the State Excise Department in Pune, CB Rajput, stated that all FL 3 permit establishments include pubs, restaurants, bars, and hotels.
“We had closed 81 such establishments, including bars and pubs.” Out of that, 44 are currently operational, while 20 venues’ FL 3 permit licenses have been permanently terminated, and a hearing for six pubs and bars is continuing. “The establishments that had fine-dine arrangements and were not booked under the MRTP Act were allowed to open after recovering fines, whereas those that face cases under the MRTP Act were closed,” he said.
The Pune excise department has intensified its campaign on unlicensed pubs and bars across the city. From April to May 2024, the government investigated 108 such venues and took action against 57 pubs and bars.
The Pune police recently issued a show-cause notice to the Ballr Pub in Kalyaninagar for the lack of security and overcrowding, suggesting that the license be cancelled owing to norm violations.
According to the August 9 warning, catastrophes such as fire and stampede might cause property damage and loss of life.
“There are no concrete security arrangements in place here, and the place is overcrowded.” Currently, there is a terror alert, and it cannot be denied if a particular terror organization uses the crowd to carry out a bomb blast in which many people may die.” the notice read.
