Bengaluru Techie Shares Delightful Experience of Ordering Food via Zomato on a Train
A Bengaluru-based techie, Sunny Gupta, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a unique and impressive experience while traveling by train from Mumbai to Pune. Gupta opted to try Zomato’s train food delivery service and documented the entire process, which has since garnered significant attention online.
Gupta explained that by entering his Passenger Name Record (PNR) number into the Zomato app, he was able to choose a station along his journey—he selected Panvel station for his food delivery. “I decided to skip the usual train food and give Zomato a shot,” Gupta wrote, describing his decision to order Triple Schezwan rice through the app. He was pleasantly surprised by the convenience and smooth process.
So I’m travelling to Pune after a while.

By train from Mumbai!
Happened to open @zomato and saw this prompt to enter my PNR! pic.twitter.com/5Jo6vJst3S
One of the standout features of Zomato’s service is the ability to place an order up to four days in advance and cancel it anytime before preparation begins. Gupta’s order, despite the train running late, was ready and waiting for him at Panvel station. In a light-hearted post, he joked, “The train was running late, but my Zomato order was on time. This is probably the first time I’ve gotten revenge on Zomato for making me wait.”
The train is running delayed and Zomato says my food is prepped and waiting at the station.

Previous station was Thane, next up Panvel!
The post quickly went viral, amassing nearly 10 lakh views, with many users praising Zomato’s innovative approach to train food delivery. Numerous commenters shared their own positive experiences, with one saying, “I’ve used Zomato’s train food service multiple times. It’s always better than what the train offers, and you get to pick food from actual restaurants.”
However, not all feedback was glowing. A few users voiced concerns, including one who mentioned a disappointing experience with cold food due to a delayed train. “I ordered a pizza, and the train was delayed for two hours. By the time I received it, the pizza was cold, and the overall experience wasn’t great,” the user commented.
Despite the mixed reviews, Gupta had a minor issue of his own. While his order was complete, he noted that the cutlery mentioned on the bill was missing, which he pointed out humorously in his post.
Zomato’s initiative continues to stir conversations, offering a glimpse into the growing trend of food delivery services finding creative ways to cater to passengers on the move. As the service gains traction, many are eager to see how it evolves, balancing convenience with the challenges of timely delivery.
