Mumbai, January 17: A significant breakthrough in the investigation into the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has surfaced with the release of CCTV footage showing the suspected attacker. The video captures the individual descending the staircase of Khan’s Bandra apartment building after the attack and staring directly into the camera.

The 54-year-old actor was attacked in the early hours of January 16 inside his 12th-floor apartment. Saif sustained six stab wounds, including two critical injuries. He is now “out of danger” after undergoing emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital.

Incident Details

The intruder reportedly entered the apartment undetected, without signs of forced entry. The alarm was raised by Khan’s domestic help, who noticed the suspect entering and sustained a minor injury during a scuffle. Saif confronted the attacker after hearing her cries for help, leading to a violent altercation.

Following the attack, Khan’s household staff transported him to Lilavati Hospital in an auto-rickshaw. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s COO, detailed the injuries:

  • A significant wound to the thoracic spine caused by a knife, which required surgery to repair leaking spinal fluid.
  • Two deep wounds on his left hand and one on the right side of his neck, treated by the plastic surgery team.

Saif was initially admitted to the ICU but is expected to move to a regular ward soon.

Investigation Updates

An FIR has been registered at the Bandra police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including robbery with attempts to cause death (Section 311) and house break-in or trespass at night (Section 331(4)).

Preliminary findings suggest that the attacker sneaked into the apartment complex during the night. The police are analyzing the released footage to track the suspect and have intensified their search efforts.

Government Response

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed public concerns, emphasizing Mumbai’s reputation as one of the safest cities in India. “While such incidents must be taken seriously, they do not undermine the city’s safety. The government is committed to ensuring the security of all citizens,” the CM said.

Bollywood and Public Reaction

The attack has sparked widespread concern within the Bollywood community. Messages of support and calls for enhanced safety measures have poured in from fans and fellow actors.

As investigations continue, Saif Ali Khan’s fans and well-wishers remain hopeful for justice and the actor’s full recovery.
