CEC hands over list of elected members to President, model code of conduct lifted

The Election Commission of India, in a letter to the Cabinet Secretary, has informed that with the conclusion of Lok Sabha Elections 2024, assembly elections in some states, and bye-elections in a few places, the model code of conduct has been lifted with effect from 6th June 2024.

The model code of conduct comes into force from the date of announcement of elections by the Election Commission of India and remains in force till the conclusion of elections.

In a related development, it was announced through the official ‘X’ handle of The President of India that the Chief Election Commissioner, accompanied by other Election Commissioners, met the President and handed over the list of elected members to the ‘House of People’ (Lok Sabha).

The statement from the President’s office read, “The Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. A copy of the Notification issued by the ECI in terms of Section 73 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, containing the names of Members elected to the House of the People – following General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha – was submitted by them to the President.”
