Central government approves 174 km Jalna to Jalgaon railway line to improve connectivity to Ajanta Caves

The union cabinet on Friday approved a 174 km railway line, connecting Jalna to Jalgaon to improve connectivity to Ajanta Caves, boosting tourism in the area and contributing to overall development of Maharashtra.

The Jalgaon to Jalna railway line project connecting Marathwada and North Maharashtra will provide a good corridor for transportation, passengers and goods to the entire Marathwada, said the railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

New rail line from Jalna to Jalgaon (174 Km) will provide direct connectivity to the UNESCO World Heritage Ajanta Caves, provide a faster route from Marathwada to North Maharashtra, and enhance industrial growth in Sillod.

Highlights of the Project

  • Project cost: ₹7,106 crore
  • State government contribution: 50%
  • Employment generation: 60 lakh man-days
  • Land to be acquired: 935 Hactares
  • CO2 emissions saved: 54 Crore Kg equivalent to 2.2 crore trees.

This railway line will promote tourism in the region, besides providing connectivity for goods transportation and mode of transport for people living in the region.
