End of Suspense: Maharashtra Gets Its Elected Government as Fadnavis, Shinde, and Pawar Take Oath
Mumbai, December 5, 2024 — Maharashtra’s long wait for an elected government has finally ended. Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at a grand ceremony held at Azad Maidan, Mumbai. The event, marked by jubilance and anticipation, signaled the culmination of two weeks of intense negotiations among the Mahayuti alliance partners following the state assembly election results declared on November 23.
In a historic moment, Eknath Shinde was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, followed by Ajit Pawar, who also took oath as Deputy Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union ministers, and several NDA-aligned chief ministers, was a significant political event, also graced by prominent Bollywood stars and other dignitaries.
The BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP coalition, known as Mahayuti, emerged victorious with a commanding majority of 230 seats in the 288-member House during the November 20 assembly polls. The new government reflects the alliance’s strength and the people’s mandate for stability and development in the state.
Before taking his oath, Eknath Shinde expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Balasaheb Thackeray, Anand Dighe, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the state’s 13 crore people. His journey to the Deputy Chief Minister’s role was marked by persistent efforts from Shiv Sena leaders who supported his candidature. Leaders such as Uday Samant, Sanjay Shirsat, Sanjay Gaikwad, Bharat Gogawle, and Deepak Kesarkar played pivotal roles in securing Shinde’s position within the government.
