  • BJP won only 9 seats, down from the 23 it won in 2019
  • The INDIA bloc bagged 30 seats

Devendra Fadnavis offered to resign as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, taking responsibility for the party’s dismal performance in Maharashtra in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Taking complete responsibility of BJP’s below expectations performance in Maharashtra during recent Lok Sabha Elections, during a media brief, he said he has requested the BJP high command to relieve him from the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra so that he can work hard for the party in the upcoming assembly elections.

Reacting to this, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, partner in Mahayuti Alliance said, “Electoral defeat is a collective responsibility. All three parties had worked together in the elections. If you look at the vote share, Mahayuti got more than two lakh votes in Mumbai. The reasons for the defeat will be honestly reviewed. In the last two years, the government has taken many good decisions in the state. I will be speaking to Devendra ji soon. We have worked together in the past and we will keep on working in the future. We have collectively failed to counter the false claims of the opposition.”

Earlier in the day, the BJP unit in Maharashtra held a meeting to analyse the party’s poor performance. The meeting was attended by Devendra Fadnavis and the BJP’s state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule and other senior leaders.

The BJP-led NDA fell significantly short of its target of bagging 45 seats in Maharashtra.
