December 20, 2023: In a landmark moment for the Indian automotive industry, Tata Motors’ new Safari and Harrier models have become the first to receive the prestigious 5-star rating from the Bharat-NCAP (Bharat New Car Assessment Programme). As the first Bharat-NCAP results are out, this accolade marks a significant milestone in vehicle safety standards in India.

The Bharat-NCAP, India’s independent safety performance evaluation protocol, is designed to advance road safety and vehicle safety standards. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, emphasized the role of Bharat-NCAP in enhancing vehicle safety beyond mandatory regulations. He expressed his delight in Tata Motors being the first to achieve this distinction.

Tata Motors’ Commitment to Safety

Mr. Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., accepted the Bharat-NCAP certification, highlighting Tata Motors’ dedication to safety as a core aspect of their vehicle design. The company’s efforts are in line with the government’s initiative to promote safer vehicles in India.

Key Safety Features of the Award-Winning SUVs

  • The new Safari and Harrier are equipped with 7 airbags, with 6 as standard across different models.
  • Electronic Stability Control is standard in these vehicles.
  • All rows feature 3-point seatbelts, ensuring safety for all passengers.
  • Seat Belt Reminder system for all seats.
  • The SUVs come with Isofix tethers, essential for child occupant safety.
  • Advanced seatbelts with Retractor, Pretensioner, Load Limiter, and anchor pretensioner.
  • Reinforced cabin structure for enhanced crash performance, including side pole impact protection.
  • Built on the OMEGARC architecture, derived from Land Rover’s D8 Platform, these SUVs also boast a 5-star GNCAP rating.

Bharat NCAP: India’s Independent Vehicle Assessment Program
