Heavy Traffic on Mumbai-Goa Highway: Festival Travel Leads to 5-7 km Long Traffic Jams
There is heavy traffic congestion being reported from Mumbai-Goa Highway as thousands of citizens have started their travel towards hometowns in Konkan region to celebrate Ganeshotsav 2024.
Traffic jams with vehicle queues stretching from 5 to 7 kilometers are being reported from the Mumbai-Goa Highway.
Citizens from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and surrounding areas have started driving on Mumbai-Goa Highway to reach their hometown in time for the festival, leading to massive traffic jams stretching up to 7 kilometers at some points, especially near Lonere village.
The citizens are reporting being stuck in traffic for over an hour at same places.
Ganeshotsav is a major festival in Konkan and across entire Maharashtra and many people from Konkan, working in Mumbai have started heading toward Konkan since Wednesday night to reach back to their villages to celebrate the festival.
Raigad Police All Geared Up
Raigad Police is all geared up to control and manage the heavy traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway. They have deployed additional police personnel at key locations along the highway where traffic congestion is most severe.
- Drones in use: The Raigad Police are also using drones to monitor traffic and assist in easing jams.
- Heavy vehicle restrictions: To manage the flow of traffic better, heavy vehicles have been temporarily stopped on the route, and ST bus stops have been placed outside the city limits to avoid further congestion.
Heavy traffic on Mumbai-Goa highway and other important highways and roads is going to continue for the duration of the festival as for the first few days, devotees will be traveling to their hometowns and during the last few days, there will be traffic of devotees returning back to big cities for work.
Citizens are advised to stay updated with traffic conditions and plan their travel accordingly.
