Pune’s public transport system is undergoing a major transformation with the much-awaited Pune Metro Line 3, connecting the bustling Hinjawadi IT hub to Shivajinagar. The 23-kilometer stretch is expected to be operational by September 2025, promising faster and more convenient commutes for thousands of professionals working in the Hinjawadi Infotech Park.
Project Delays and Current Progress
Initially slated for completion by March 2025, the project faced delays due to election-related restrictions and VIP movements. Despite these setbacks, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has made significant progress and requested an extension to September 2025 to ensure top safety and quality standards.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has urged for faster progress, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is closely monitoring the project’s developments. Alongside the Metro expansion, a new flyover on Ganeshkhind Road is also under construction to further ease traffic congestion.
