IIT Patna has been awarded a patent for its indigenously developed light weight, cost effective and highly portable power inverter by the Patent Office, Government of India.

This technology has the potential to make the country self-reliant in the field of portable power devices such as inverters and UPS systems over the next few years.

This portable inverter was developed under the startup scheme ‘Portable Power Technology’ at IIT-P’s incubation center. Five young scientists, Abhijit Kumar, Saurabh Rai, Abhishek Ranjan, Radheshyam Kumar, and Rahmat Ali, under the guidance of IIT-P’s academic dean A K Thakur, designed this innovative technique. The portable and cost effective inverter will be available in the market from next month onwards.

Key Features

  • Integrated Design: This product integrates the battery and inverter into one unit, eliminating the need for separate components, as is the case with the inverters currently available in the market.
  • Compact and Lightweight: Weighing only one-fifth of a conventional inverter and battery module, this product is designed for easy portability and convenience.
  • Environmentally Friendly: The inverter promotes clean and green energy generation without harmful emissions, contributing to a healthier environment.
  • Enhanced Durability: The innovative design boasts of improved endurance and battery life, ensuring long-term reliability compared to other inverters currently available in the market.

Future Prospects of Portable Inverter

IIT-Patna’s patent for this first-of-its-kind lightweight and compact inverter marks a major development in the advancement of portable power technology in India. With a copyright on the commercial use of this technique for the next 20 years, IIT-Patna aims to drive self-reliance and innovation in the field of portable power solutions.

The cost-effective inverter developed by IIT-Patna highlights the institution’s continued efforts towards sustainable technology and self-reliance. Besides offering practical solutions for portable power needs this inverter technology also contributes to a cleaner and greener future.
