Indian Railways to Install Multiple Cameras on All Trains for Surveillance of Tracks and Surroundings to Prevent Sabotage

New Delhi: In light of recent incidents where authorities suspect attempts to derail trains, Indian Railways has announced plans to install multiple cameras on all trains to closely monitor the tracks and surroundings. The move aims to bolster passenger safety and prevent potential sabotage.

Speaking to reporters, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that cameras will be installed on various parts of the train, including the front, rear, and sides of the engine, as well as the guard coach. Additional cameras will also be placed on cattle guards and bogies. “A tender will be floated within three months for the installation, and all trains will be covered,” Vaishnaw confirmed.

To ensure thorough monitoring, a common data centre will be set up, where all the camera feeds will be stored for record-keeping. This comprehensive surveillance initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the safety of railway operations across the country.

The decision comes amid rising concerns over recent incidents of suspected attempts to sabotage train operations. Minister Vaishnaw termed these incidents as “very serious” and emphasized the need for stronger vigilance. The Railway administration is also collaborating with the police chiefs of various states to boost security along railway tracks.

In addition to the camera installations, efforts are underway to strengthen intelligence networks and raise public awareness to deter any attempts to derail trains, sources revealed.

The installation of cameras is a significant step forward in improving railway security, with the Indian Railways leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of passengers.
