Cuttack railway station in Odisha is undergoing a remarkable transformation, rivaling modern airports in facilities and design. The revamped station, which now boasts an entrance at the Sikharpur side, will be inaugurated tomorrow by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. With direct access to the national highway, it promises an enhanced travel experience for passengers.

A Blend of Modernity and Culture

The Sikharpur entrance marks a significant upgrade, offering air-conditioned facilities, plush seating for 500 passengers, and ample parking space. Passengers can look forward to temperature-controlled waiting areas, modern sanitation, and a variety of food options through food tracks within the premises.

Incorporating Odia art and cultural motifs, the station’s decor celebrates local heritage while maintaining a bright, modern aesthetic. The new gate seamlessly connects with the national highway, ensuring easy bus connectivity for travelers heading to distant locations.

Passenger-Centric Features

The station is designed with inclusivity and convenience in mind. Four ticket counters cater to general passengers, alongside a dedicated counter for individuals with physical disabilities. Enhanced mobility is ensured with lifts and escalators, while LED displays provide real-time train information.

A pharmaceutical store on-site adds to passenger convenience, and stringent cleanliness measures include CCTV surveillance and fines for littering, spitting, and other violations. Smoking, vandalism, and public urination carry fines of Rs 200, Rs 500, and Rs 400, respectively.

An Investment in Connectivity

The project to connect Cuttack railway station with the national highway was initiated in 2021 at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore. Land acquisitions near Sikharpur paved the way for this ambitious development, now poised to redefine the travel experience in Odisha.

East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “In a city like Cuttack, we are able to achieve a direct and free access to the national highway, which is meant for passengers.”

As the revamped station opens its doors, it sets a benchmark for integrating cultural aesthetics with modern infrastructure, ensuring comfort and convenience for all passengers.
