A heart-stopping video from Kannur, Kerala, has taken the internet by storm. The footage captures a 56-year-old man, identified as Pavitran, narrowly escaping a superfast train by lying flat on the railway tracks. The incident, which occurred around 5 PM on Monday between Kannur and Chirakkal railway stations, has left viewers stunned and sparked widespread discussions about railway safety.

A Shocking Escape

According to railway police, Pavitran, who works as a school cleaner, was walking along the tracks while talking on his phone, unaware of the approaching train. Realizing the train was too close for him to move aside, he instinctively lay down on the tracks, allowing the train to pass over him. Miraculously, he remained unharmed and left the spot as soon as the train passed.

“I was not drunk at the time,” Pavitran clarified after rumors surfaced that he was intoxicated. He added, “I simply lay down to save my life. The incident has left me shaken, and I am yet to recover from the shock.”

Police and Public Reactions

The video, which has gone viral on social media, drew varied reactions from netizens, ranging from shock to admiration for Pavitran’s quick thinking. The railway police were equally astonished. “We were shocked after watching the video. He was safe because he acted immediately upon seeing the train,” an officer said.

The Legal Angle: Crossing Tracks is a Crime

The incident has also reignited discussions about illegal track crossing. Crossing railway tracks is a punishable offense under Section 147 of the Railway Act. Offenders can face up to six months in prison or a fine of up to ₹1,000. Despite repeated awareness campaigns and crackdowns by the railway authorities, people continue to endanger their lives by using tracks as shortcuts instead of footbridges.

Railway Authorities’ Efforts

Railway authorities are urging citizens to prioritize safety and avoid illegal track crossing. The administration has intensified efforts to prevent accidents, including strict enforcement of the law and public awareness drives.

This shocking incident serves as a reminder of the grave dangers associated with unsafe practices near railway tracks. While Pavitran’s quick thinking saved his life, the video underscores the critical importance of following railway safety guidelines.
