Large crocodile spotted walking on the wall of Varasgaon dam in Pune on Tuesday night
A large crocodile was seen walking on the wall of Varasgaon Dam around 10 pm on Tuesday night (6th August) by irrigation department employees.
The crocodile was seen on the wall of Varasgaon Dam around ten o’clock on Tuesday night. At around 10:00 PM, security employees Rahul Jadhav, Kunal Borade were going over the wall to check the water level in the reservoir.
At that time, they saw movement in front of them in the darkness. When they looked in the light of the torch, they saw that it was a large crocodile. The crocodile was coming towards the security post near the wall of the Dam. They saw the crocodile, after which the crocodile changed direction and continued to walk over the dam wall.
The incident was immediately reported to the officials over the phone. They reached the spot and reported the incident to Velhe Forest Department. Forest department officials and rescue team reached the spot around 11 pm. They are monitoring the movement of the crocodile.
An official of the irrigation department said, “We often have to visit the spot to check the water level due to the rainy season. The crocodile was approaching the staffers, which is dangerous. Therefore, I asked the Forest Department officials to release it back into the reservoir.”
