Maharashtra Elections: List of 12 Alternative ID Proofs Acceptable for Voting if Voter ID is Not Available
As part of preparations for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Pune District Magistrate Dr Suhas Diwase has announced that if voters do not have their voter ID card, they can vote by presenting any one of the 12 alternative identity proofs approved by the Election Commission. This is aimed at ensuring that every eligible voter can participate in the democratic process even if they do not have a voter ID on the election day.
The District Magistrate made it clear that through these accepted documents, voters can verify their identity and cast their vote. “If the voter’s photo ID card is not with them, any of these accepted documents can be presented, and the concerned voter will be allowed to cast their vote,” said Dr Suhas Diwase.
The list of alternative identity proofs accepted by the Election Commission includes commonly available documents.
Here is the list of 12 accepted alternative identity proofs:
- Aadhaar Card
- Job Card issued under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA)
- Passbook with a Photograph issued by the bank or post office
- Health Insurance Smart Card issued by the Ministry of Labor
- Driving License
- PAN Card
- Smart Card issued by the Registrar General of India under the National Population Register
- Passport
- Pension Document with Photograph issued by the central or state government
- Photo Identity Card issued by Public Sector Undertakings or Public Limited Companies to their employees
- Official Identity Card issued to Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, or Members of the Legislative Council
- Unique Disability ID Card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
- Original Passport for Non-Resident Indians for identity verification
This initiative of the Election Commission is to promote participation in voting, so that those who do not have a voter ID card can also vote. Voters are appealed to take any one of these documents with them to the polling booth, so that the voting process can run smoothly and they can exercise their right.
With these arrangements, the administration has appealed to the eligible citizens to exercise their voting rights and participate in the electoral process of Maharashtra.
