Maharashtra Weather: Heavy Rains Predicted for Pune, Satara, and Konkan; IMD Issues Alerts

Pune and Satara on Orange Alert
Pune and Satara districts are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in the ghat regions over the next two days. Moderate rainfall is anticipated in the plains of these districts during this period. The IMD has sounded an orange alert for these areas, urging residents to be cautious, especially in the ghat regions prone to landslides and waterlogging.
Yellow Alert for Konkan and Nashik
In the Konkan region, districts including Thane and Mumbai have been placed under a yellow alert due to forecasts of heavy rains. Similarly, Nashik and Kolhapur are also on yellow alert, with heavy rainfall predicted to impact these areas. The Regional Meteorological Center in Mumbai confirmed that the districts in Konkan are likely to experience heavy rain at isolated locations.
Light to Moderate Rain in Marathwada
Marathwada is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall across its districts. Although not as intense as the rains predicted for other regions, residents are advised to remain alert to changing weather patterns, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Thunderstorm Alert for Vidarbha
Most districts in Vidarbha are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated locations. The IMD has warned that the unstable weather could bring significant risks, including lightning strikes.
Developing Low Pressure in Bay of Bengal
A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression by September 9th, moving west-northwest across Chhattisgarh and northern Vidarbha. This development may lead to further rainfall across Maharashtra, with the possibility of an orange alert being issued for Konkan and the ghat areas of Pune and Satara from September 7th to 9th.
Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the Weather Forecasting Division at IMD Pune, noted that light to moderate rain in Pune city is expected to increase between September 6th and 9th.
