Maharashtra Weather: Monsoon arrives in Mumbai and Pune, heavy rains predicted in state with red and orange alerts
Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some parts of north Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai) today, the 09th June, 2024. A few minutes back, weather experts have announced the arrival of monsoon in Pune as well.
A gradual increase in rainfall activity is expected over parts of Maharashtra during next 2-3 days. Widespread rainfall activity with heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy (115.6-204.4 mm) rainfall is expected over Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during the above period.
Possibility of extreme heavy (>204.5 mm) rainfall is also expected at isolated places of south Konkan and adjoining ghat region of Madhya Maharashtra. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds is also very likely to occur over parts of Maharashtra during the above period.

Districts on Red Alert
IMD predicts extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas in Sidhudurg and Kolhapur districts on 9 and 10 June.
Districts on Orange Alert
Forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning & gusty winds in the districts of Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune and Satara for the next few days.
Districts on Yellow Alert
Districts of Palghar, Mumbai, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, and most of the other districts of Maharashtra will see thunderstorms, lightening and light rainfall.
Monsoon 2024 Update
Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some parts of north Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai) today, the 09th June, 2024.  The Northern Limit of Monsoon now passes through 19.5°N/60°E, 19.5°N/65°E, 19.0°N/70°E, Thane, Ahmednagar, Beed, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram, 19.5°N/88°E, 21.5°N/89.5°E, 23°N/89.5°E and Islampur.
According to latest updates a few minutes back, monsoon has reached Pune also on June 09, few days ahead of its normal onset date.
