After a long lull in the monsoon activity, weather experts are predicting the revival of monsoon in Maharashtra from today evening, i.e. from 23rd evening onwards.

Though there has been rainfall at various places in the state in the last few days but weather experts have said that this rain, which usually took place in the afternoons after an intense heat spell was not due to monsoon, rather due to localized Cumulonimbus cloud formation activity.

Now, Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting division, has predicted the monsoon activity will once again pick up pace from the evening of 23rd August across Maharashtra under the influence of developing weather systems.

Starting from the evening of the 23rd, most parts of Maharashtra (except for the Marathwada region) can expect heavy rainfall. This is due to two low-pressure systems affecting the area: one is moving northward along the Karnataka-Goa coastline, and the other is moving westward from West Bengal. These systems will make the monsoon stronger across the state. As a result, an Orange Alert has been issued, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several regions.

IMD has also predicted the revival of monsoon in the state from 22nd-23rd August and has issued appropriate weather alerts for the districts of Maharashtra.
