Maharashtra Weather Update: Red alert for very heavy rain in many districts, yellow alert for Pune
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for many districts in Maharashtra for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall today.
East Vidarbha and its surrounding areas are expected to witness very heavy rainfall due to a depression over these areas. IMD has cautioned citizens living in these areas to exercise caution and stay alert for flooding and waterlogging.
Area Wise Alerts in Maharashtra
Red Alert – Dhule, Nandurbar, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Nanded districts have been placed on a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall today. The IMD has advised citizens living in these areas to stay vigilant and avoid going out if not necessary.
Orange Alert – Jalgaon, Nashik, Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Akola, and Yavatmal, are on an orange alert for very heavy rainfall today. Caution is advised in these areas as well.
Weather Conditions Across Maharashtra
The depression currently located over East Vidarbha is moving northwestwards and is expected to weaken by tonight. However, it will continue to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to various regions in Maharashtra over the next two days.
- Madhya Maharashtra: Extremely heavy rainfall is expected, particularly affecting districts like Nashik and Jalgaon.
- Marathwada and Vidarbha: These regions are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with some areas under an orange alert.
- Konkan and Goa: The coastal regions are forecasted to receive significant rainfall, though less intense than the central parts of Maharashtra.
- North Interior Karnataka, West Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, and Kutch: These regions will also be impacted by the weather system, with heavy to very heavy falls anticipated.
Weather for Pune and Mumbai
Pune: The city is under a yellow alert until September 5th, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated places, particularly in the ghat areas. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is predicted for today.
Mumbai: The city is on a green alert, indicating only light to moderate rainfall. Residents can expect relatively calm weather compared to other parts of the state.
