Mercedes Benz to invest Rs. 3000 crore in Maharashtra this year, creating jobs and boosting economy | Industries Minister
German luxury car-maker Mercedes-Benz is set to invest Rs 3,000 crore in Maharashtra, according to state minister Uday Samant. The announcement followed a meeting between state officials and top executives from Mercedes-Benz to discuss investment opportunities in the region. Industries Minister Samant confirmed the development on social media.
Samant stated that this investment will boost job creation in Maharashtra. “Had a meeting with the representative of Mercedes-Benz company while on tour to Germany today. Mercedes-Benz is going to invest Rs 3,000 crore in Maharashtra this year. This will increase the number of jobs in Maharashtra along with industries. There was a discussion regarding this today,” he wrote in a post on ‘X’.
During the visit, Samant met with several Mercedes-Benz executives, including Dr. Jörg Berger, Director of Political Operations – External Affairs at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Marina Krets, Director of Sales & Marketing, Region Overseas at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Martin Schulz, and Venkatesh Kulkarni, Executive Operations Head of Mercedes-Benz India.
The announcement comes amid criticism claiming Maharashtra has been losing major projects to other states, particularly Gujarat.
Samant also mentioned that the Maharashtra delegation engaged in discussions with their German counterparts to address the skilled labor gap. He assured that Maharashtra would assist the German state of Baden-Württemberg in meeting their workforce requirements.
Furthermore, Samant emphasized efforts to ensure a smooth transition for Maharashtra’s workers by providing them with technical skills and basic German language proficiency to secure employment opportunities with German companies. During the visit, the delegation also met with Winfried Kretschmann, Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, and other ministers.
