The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced the launch of a groundbreaking service called “Shivneri Sundari,” designed to bring airline-like hospitality to bus travel. This move is part of MSRTC’s commitment to enhancing passenger satisfaction and elevating travel experiences on its E-Shivneri buses, particularly on the busy Mumbai-Pune route.

Shivneri Sundari: Hospitality Meets Public Transport

The “Shivneri Sundari” initiative was unveiled during the MSRTC’s 304th board meeting, chaired by MSRTC Chairman Bharat Gogavale. The concept is inspired by the hospitality standards of airlines, and MSRTC will introduce specially trained cabin crew members on the E-Shivneri buses. These crew members, known as “Shivneri Sundari,” will offer personalized service to passengers, making travel more comfortable and enjoyable without any additional cost to travellers.

According to MSRTC officials, this initiative aims to redefine public transport by blending convenience with hospitality. Passengers can expect a more welcoming atmosphere on board, with the Shivneri Sundari crew ensuring a smooth and pleasant journey.

Additional Initiatives Approved

During the same board meeting, several other key initiatives were discussed and approved:

  • Anand Health Centres: MSRTC plans to establish “Anand Health Centres” at 343 bus stations across Maharashtra in memory of the late Anand Dighe. These centres will provide affordable medical services, including check-ups and medication, not only for travellers but also for the local community. Clinics and pharmacies will be set up at these stations, further enhancing the accessibility of healthcare.
  • New Bus Depots: MSRTC will build new bus depots in the tribal regions of Mula in Chandrapur and Dharni in Amravati. With these additions, the total number of MSRTC depots will increase to 253, improving transportation services in underserved areas.
  • Support for Women’s Self-Help Groups: To empower local women, MSRTC will allow self-help groups to set up 10×10 stalls at bus stations at nominal rental rates. This initiative will provide a platform for women to sell their products, fostering economic growth at the grassroots level.
  • Sustainability and Modernisation: MSRTC has also initiated the tender process for purchasing 2,500 new standard buses and converting 100 diesel buses to electric ones on a trial basis. This move underscores MSRTC’s focus on sustainable and modern transportation solutions.

Future of Public Transport in Maharashtra

The introduction of “Shivneri Sundari” marks a significant step in MSRTC’s efforts to modernize public transport and offer passengers an experience akin to airline travel. Along with the hospitality upgrade, the corporation’s other initiatives, such as health centres and support for local women’s groups, demonstrate a comprehensive approach to improving the lives of both travellers and local communities.

With the Shivneri Sundari service, MSRTC is setting a new benchmark for public transport in India, blending convenience, comfort, and social responsibility into its operations.
