Mumbai Pune Expressway: Accident inside tunnel involving three vehicles claims one life, many injured
The accident occurred in a tunnel near Khalapur involving three vehicles: a container trailer, a gas tanker, and a car transporter.
In a tragic accident, a collision took place in the Mumbai-bound lane of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway inside the new tunnel on the 5th of July, 2024, at around 07:00 am.

During the incident, the driver of the gas tanker, Akshay Dhele, was trapped in his vehicle and passed away at the scene. The driver of the car container is reportedly absconding. The deceased was taken to Khopoli Municipal Hospital by ambulance from Lokmanya Hospital. IRB Patrol, Delta Force, and the Maharashtra Security Force assisted in the rescue efforts.
The driver of the gas tanker, Akshay Venkatarav Dhekle, 30 years old, a resident of Ahmedpur-Kumtha, District Latur, tragically lost his life in the accident.
Officers and personnel from the Highway Traffic Police, Borghat, and Khopoli Police Station were at the location. The accident occurred within the jurisdiction of Khopoli Police Station.
